| Risto Benji gets beaten |
An entertainer, who was caught by an angry mob as he allegedly attempted to steal a motorcycle, was soundly beaten and handed over to the New Kingston police yesterday. He is Michael Benjamin, popularly known as deejay 'Risto Benji', 37-year -old of Spanish Town, St Catherine. Reports reaching THE STAR are that about 4 p.m., the former top-flight entertainer went to the New Kingston Shopping Centre. He is said to have attempted to steal a Honda Nighthawk motorcycle that was parked there. He was reportedly caught by the alert owner who sounded an alarm. |

When THE WEEKEND STAR spoke with Mavado's manager Julian Jones-Griffith he explained that two weeks ago Drake donated US$25,000 (JA$2.15 million) towards the building of the library. The popular rapper shot the video for his latest single Find Our Love in Jamaica in April. The rapper also visited the island prior to that for vacation. |

The incarcerated Reggae Superstar Buju Banton will be releasing a new album “Before The Dawn” that will hit stores the same day he hits the court for his ongoing drug battle with the United States on September 13,2010. This album will be Buju's 8th album and features 10 influential tracks written by Mr. Myrie himself.
Fans in North America will have access to “Before The Dawn” on September 28.
If you've been lost in the wilderness Buju Banton has been behind bars since his December arrest, and has been charged with conspiracy with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and possession of a firearm. |



The Greatest Reggae Awards Show in America returns this year once again to Jamaica, New York for it's 29th annual celebration. The 29th annual IRAWMA Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday May 2 at the York College Performing Arts Centre, Jamaica, Queens, New York. Among the nominees the ruling lady in reggae music Queen Ifrica captured nine nominations in the following categories: Recording Artiste of the Year, Best Female Vocalist, Best Song (Lioness On the Rise), Best album/CD (Montego Bay), Best Female Disc-Jockey/Rapper, Best Music Video, (Stay Far), Most Cultural/Educational Entertainer, Songwriter of the Year and the Community Service Award. The official announcement was made exclusively on IRIE FM Radio and CVM TV in Jamaica at 7:15am, yesterday. Other leading nominees include: Tarrus Riley with six nominations, Machel Montano and Gramps Morgan with five each, Julian Marley, Sean Paul and Macka Diamond with four nods, followed by Barbee, Beenie Man and Vybz Kartel with three nod each. India.Arie received two nods, one for Therapy with Gramps Morgan and the other is the Martin's International Award of Honour; several other entertainers were nominated in two categories. Among the performers for the 29th IRAWMA, are Julian Marley, Machel Montano, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel, Alison Hinds, Gramps Morgan, Bar-bee, Dean Fraser, Winsome Benjamin and a host of other international reggae, and world music superstars.
